Ahhh… GTA V.. The name itself brings back nostalgic memories of running from cops, blowing stuff up with RPG’s. running around town in your stolen Bugatti – the possibilities are endless. GTA V takes the iconic concept of the entire series - ‘freedom’ - to a whole new level. The game offers the player a plethora of leisurely activities to immerse themselves in, along with many action-packed missions and heist that keep the player entertained. Let us delve deep into GTA V and see if the game is worth your 60$.

The fans all had high expectations from Rockstar, after the release of its previous masterpiece – GTA IV. GTA IV literally redefined gaming, and hit the charts at no. 1 on many platforms. With the pressure of making a new game just as worthy as GTA IV on their shoulders, Rockstar managed to crank out another great game in September. GTA V is the result of years of hard work on Rockstar’s part. Was the effort worth it? Lets find out.

GRAPHICS

The graphics are good. But not revolutionary. With games such as Uncharted 3, Sleeping Dogs and Battlefield 4 coming out, Rockstar could have spent more time on the graphics in my opinion. The developers focused more on the game engine and storyline, and left the graphics in the dark[partially]. For previous GTA fans, this shouldn’t be new, but for GTA newcomers – don’t expect epic graphics. They are not of the likes of games such as Uncharted, but are enough to get a close-to-reality feel. If Rockstar wanted to achieve a feeling of reality by allowing the player to do nearly anything they want, they should have focused more on the graphics. One pro about the graphics is that the water animation has been done marvelously, and you just feel like diving right in. The cars have also been well animated.

The final opinion on the graphics – good, but not as awesome as they could be.

GAMEPLAY

To be honest, no painstakingly evident faults are visible in the gameplay. It’s pretty seamless on its own. Whether its driving off a mountain on your dirt bike or stealing a nuclear missile with a submarine, the gameplay is always creative and fun. Rockstar manages to ruin the game of monotony; GTA V has all sorts of twists and turns around the corner.  The car mechanics have been designed well; comparable to our folks over at the NFS headquarters. I have to admit, the airplane mechanics are a bit clumsy and hard to use, and the whole turbulence and driving skill has been exaggerated. I mean come on, even if a 8 year old spent enough time in a helicopter, he could keep it steadier than Franklin ever could. The shooting system is good, and Rockstar has made driving bikes just plain fun. Rockstar gave the player more leisure options than ever – with parachuting, yoga, tennis, golf etc. More effort could have been put into these, because they are essentially what the player will do outside of the storyline. But GTA V did give all its fans the freedom of choice they’ve always wanted – with even more carnage and creativity. The open world will never leave you bored, and that’s my guarantee, especially if you’re playing online. Rockstar managed to do what their best at – give the crowd a bang for their buck.

STORYLINE

And now, we come to the best part of GTA V – the story. The epic feeling of being able to do whatever you want in not new to GTA fans, but what’s more epic than being able to do whatever you want? Doing what you’re told by Lester. Yes, I speak of the heists. The heists and exhilarating, heart – stopping, action – packed, and many more awesome adjectives.

The adrenaline rush a player gets while doing the last heist is just incredible; and while planning it.There is a profound beauty in how Rockstar used GTA V and video games as a medium to portray something so entertaining, it leaves you wanting for more.  The ability to play as three characters – each with their own different improvable skill set – is a new and interesting addition to the GTA series. It means 3 times the missions – 3 times the fun. The storyline was great except for the fact that driving for ages was necessary, and that too in trucks.

Note that I am only reffering to the main story line. Some of the side missions (or Strangers and Freaks as they are called) are simply, for lack of a better word, screwed up. I mean, who wants to waste ten minutes of your life attacking aliens with a minigun after taking a mysterious drug; and hallucinating that you’ve been dropped from a UFO?(Oops, spoiler). Once you finish the storyline, there’s not much more to do than free roam and enjoy, cause the side missions are just boring sometimes.

ONLINE

Yes, the largely anticipated GTA V Online. Nothings better than some online fun with friends (and Taco Bell, of course). GTA V takes online gaming to a new level, and makes your experience even more fun. I’m not gonna say more, because I cannot begin to describe how fun GTA with friends is; you can find out for yourself, because this game is worth your 60$.

THE VERDICT

Graphics – Good

Gameplay – Awesome

Storyline – Awesome

Online – (Depends on your friends)
